Bush Lowers the Bar for war with Iran

I haven't seen anybody in the MSM commment on this. Did they even catch it?

At Bush's bumbling press conference yesterday, he literally lowered the bar for what would trigger a war with iran.

in his press conference he said that if we wanted to prevent World War III, we needed to prevent Iran from acquiring the knowledge to build a nuclear weapon.

This is a subtle rhetorical twist. Not unlike what he did with iraq. Since we can't find any actual evidence of a nuclear weapons program, bush is lowering the bar to the iranians simply having the knowledge to build nuclear weapons.

Remember how the justification for attacking Iraq went from iraq actually having WMD, to Iraq having WMD programs?

Yes, and it transformed into "he intended to have them, someday".

Bush is hell-bent on attacking Iran, of that, there is zero doubt. Whether or not he can pull it off, is the only open question.

You are assuming the "Great Communicator" we have as President wasn't just producing another malaprop.

the reason I think its a conscious attempt to lower the bar, is because BushCo. has been flip flopping around trying out different reasons to justify aggression against iran, throwing stuff against the wall and seeing if it sticks.

The evidence of an actual nuclear weapons program is dubious and unsubstantiated, and it wasn't selling, so they pivoted to the iranians meddling in iraq and killing americans in iraq. I'm not sure that's selling too well either (in terms of justifying a war), so I think they're going back to the nuclear issues, albiet from a different angle...or selling point, as it were.

It is difficult to get all huffed up over the Iranians providing weapons to people in Iraq when the US has done the same, even in that region, before. Including planes to Iran.
