Bret and Heather made the good point Saturday that almost never gets made that calling this the China Bug is really pretty wrong and here is why: That making superbugs and studying them so that when/if nature provided them we would know what to was a good idea was the consensus of scientists. This was ratified by their organizations and by their governments. Hell there is a pretty good chance the making of this bug was paid at least in part with American Government money....We will likely never know because the Chinese have destroyed all the records and evidence that they can get their hands on, and the people involved know very well the high cost to them, their families, their friends, and pretty much anyone they ever smiled at if they betray the Empire and talk.
Here is what the Experts and various governments need to answer for:
1) Wuhan was pretty much the worst place on the planet for this kind of lab to exist, and yet here it is.
2) It was long known that the Chinese generally and this lab particularly had a history of being sloppy with BioSecurity, but almost no one cared, nothing was ever done to save us from our current disaster.

Many scientists have criticized gain of function research, which involves manipulating viruses in the lab to explore their potential for infecting humans, because it creates a risk of starting a pandemic from accidental release.
Fauci did not respond to Newsweek's requests for comment.
