Cable news is all garbage.

MSNBC, CNN, FOX are all low grade propaganda. They are worse than useless. Count in ABC, NBC, and CBS.

Sadly, when Trump tries to shut down news agencies few will object. They stink.

Many years ago before cable and satellite, there was a gentleman's agreement between the three major networks that, in order to satisfy FCC rules about "broadcasters using the public airwaves to service the public interest", they would fund their news departments as loss leaders with profit skimmed off prime time entertainment programming.

Fictionalized but fairly accurate example from "Broadcast News".

When cable/satellite gave rise to the 24 hour cable news cycle, it was clearly a switch to news departments being forced to post profit, which is when news changed from being a public service to being a consumer product.

It's not so much specific networks as much as it is the change in the overall architecture itself.
As a public service news has to tell viewers what they need to know.
As a consumer product on the other hand, news now needs to tell viewers what they want to hear instead.

And therein lies the rub, the problem. You cannot chase profit AND provide a public service, the two are diametrically opposed to each other. If you want news that works as a public service you have to find outlets that are nonprofit, otherwise you get spoon fed the things that stroke your ego or confirm your innate biases instead, because profit-oriented "news" will do or say anything to keep your from changing the channel.

Do people really want the same news item over and over?! Drones? Who cares. Mostly trivia.

A friend of mine used to work for Scripps-Howard back when their main focus was documentaries and science but now that they've launched Scripps News on streaming, it's rapidly become one of the best U.S. sources for news coverage that doesn't depends on profits, because Scripps Foundation is nonprofit.

I get almost all my news from AP, Reuters, BBC, NYTimes, Washington Post.

It is infotainment, pure purpose is to profit, and nothing works as well as melodrama, give them good guys/bad guys and they’ll turn in, problem is many, especially the right, actually think it is news

Do you think a nonprofit isn't capable of bias?
