California has implemented a plan to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035, known as the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACC II) regulation. This initiative, which was approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in 2022, requires that by 2035, all new passenger cars and light trucks sold in the state must be zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). This includes electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. The phase-out begins with 35% of new vehicle sales being ZEVs by 2026, increasing to 68% by 2030, and reaching 100% by 2035.
