from experience...no

representatives that have to start running for reelection as soon as they are elected have to make promises to their constituency for now not the future

even representatives (senators) elected for 6 years have to look to planning for reelection...with promises

are longer terms a solution, possibly

but, how about an electorate that plans for the future, that is willing to plan and pay for a better future

we need a solution now because there is a train around the curve and we are standing on the tracks

we have had to spend our way out of a depression (not a recession) while fighting two wars

we cannot afford two wars, hell we may not be able to afford one war even though we are trying to defend pakistan, a nation with nuclear weapons

can we afford for profit insurance for health care

energy costs are going up and will continue to increase

so how do we convince our federal, state and local legislators to make the tough decisions

so, how do we create an electorate that can hear the train coming that they cannot see

The answer is more simple than those who would turn away from the Republic in favor of more and more federal authority. Let the political promises be part of the needed long term planning, instead of a bunch of feel-good short term band-aid nonsense that has repeatedly led to more trouble than they get us out of. Let each party explain how their long term plan will work, then let the people choose. People CAN be smart, when they are not being deliberately misled by the government they NEED to trust.
