The drug cartels will start making Fentanyl on U.S. Soil.

China will continue to smuggle the rare precursor chemicals.

Are we willing to commit to thermonuclear war with China over the Fentanyl deaths? ( I hope so! )

Just as illegal for them to smuggle precursors as the final product. If we basically stop Fentanyl at the Southern and Northern border and we still have a fentanyl problem we keep a tariff on China.

Here's what Grok says:

Fentanyl production in the United States involves both legal and illegal activities:
  • Legal Production: Fentanyl is legally manufactured in the U.S. for medical use. It is used as a potent painkiller for patients with severe pain, particularly after surgery or for those with chronic conditions. According to posts found on X, the U.S. legally produces around 2,000 kilograms of fentanyl annually.
  • Illegal Production: The illicit production of fentanyl in the U.S. is significant. Based on posts on X, estimates suggest that illegal fentanyl production within the U.S. might be as high as 40,000 kilograms per year. This indicates that a considerable amount of the fentanyl consumed in the U.S. could be domestically produced, even if the majority of the illicit supply is thought to come from abroad. There's a sentiment expressed in these posts that a large portion, possibly up to 90%, of the fentanyl in the U.S. is made within the country, although this figure might be debated given the complexities of tracking illicit drug production.
  • Context and Sources:
    • The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other sources mention that while much of the illicit fentanyl consumed in the U.S. is manufactured abroad, primarily in Mexico using precursor chemicals from China, there are also domestic clandestine labs. These labs produce fentanyl for the black market, often mixing it with other drugs or pressing it into counterfeit pills.
    • Information from web sources like the DEA's website highlights the dangers of illicit fentanyl, noting its potency and the risk when it's mixed into other drugs without users' knowledge.
The discussion around fentanyl production in the U.S. is complex due to the secretive nature of illegal drug manufacturing and the ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis. The figures and claims from social media, like X, should be taken with caution as they might not always reflect the most accurate or updated data but do indicate a significant public concern and discourse about domestic production.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Monday held off on his tariff threats against Mexico and Canada for 30 days after the two U.S. neighbors agreed to boost border security efforts.

Just Mexico to go...
Mexico sent 600 of their troops to the border months ago in May. This decision is just a big increase.

Mexico Sends Hundreds of Troops to US Border

"Mexico has sent 600 troops to areas on the border with the U.S. following an uptick in violence, including an attack on a military installation and mass kidnappings."
