Catholic priest was an IRA bomber

Well, there will have to be a moratorium on the building of Christian churches within a respectable distance from the crime.

Score a direct hit!!

Baaaa--ZING!!

I think you are missing the main point here, this is an actual example of a conspiracy theory which, although denied by all and sundry, turned out to be totally true. It involved the Catholic church, the British government and the IRA. It has taken over 38 years for the truth to be revealed, there is much more to come in the next few months. I am hoping that the true involvement of US groups such as Noraid will finally be exposed as well.

This is almost 40 years ago and its still only an unproven accusation....

Other than some left wing pinheads

Do we give a shit now ?

Understanding the satire here...

The Church has established a precedent of not constructing in sensitive places, such as to the European Jewish community when it halted the construction of a Carmelite monastiery near Auschwitz.

Furthermore, the priest should be presecuted to the fullest extent of N. Irish law (be it DP or imprisonment). I'm reminded of Archbishop Oscar Romero, who refused to condone his priests and bishops taking up arms against the oppressive government of El Salvador.

I give a shit, as do the many relatives of people that were disappeared by the paramilitaries. Do I give a shit for your opinion, well what do you think?

Um, pay attention, he died in 1980. So he can't really be called to account, now can he?

Oh, I thought you had indicated that he was still at large...

From the article that I posted.

Nine people, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed in the village of Claudy in one of the most controversial incidents of the Troubles.
There was an alleged deal between the UK government and the Catholic Church not to arrest Father James Chesney.
Fr Chesney was moved across the Irish border by the Church after the attack.
The priest, who died in 1980, had been the curate in Cullion, a small parish in County Londonderry.

I bet you just love that phrase, it easy to pontificate when you are thousands of miles away.

I think you're going to have to face the fact that a lot of Americans have Irish ancestry, and will at least partially defend the actions of the IRA given the history between England and Ireland.

So there are allegations of Church and Gov. deal and unproven allegations this priest MIGHT have been a bomber....he's dead 30 years and the bombing was 40 years ago...?

Time to move on....? I think so...even if, by some unlikely fluke, its even true....

Interesting story....reads like a good mystery thriller....

Its full of conflicting "facts" and would unlikely hold up as proof in a US court, but interesting nonetheless....

Is this Fr Liama real person ? Identified in any way ?

He promised to disclose his identity and co-operate in an investigation if the Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman, Nuala O'Loan, agreed to one.
Did it ever happen? Did he come forward and was their a police investigation?

Did he really sign the letter ? The Church alleges it was unsigned.

If they attended the same seminary, there should have been some narrowing of his identity ....

All, so called ividence, is hear say...second hand and with no one actually coming forward in person with first hand testimony

It remains...an unsolved mystery.

Those articles I posted were from 2002 when these revelations first came to light, the official investigation has now concluded after a further 8 years and found that he was indeed a senior member of the iRA.
