So far my opinion is that the 12 game playoff has been a smashing success. We’ve seen post season play on home fields, teams that normally would not get an opportunity to compete for a national championship get one and a team that would not have made the CFP last year dominating the tournament and not only poised to win it all but favored to do so. Best of all the SEC bias and mythology has been blown up.
We had a tournament based on rules and accomplishments on the field of play, made conference championships matter again with the media having no say whatsoever on who was selected or how they were seated and the tournament represented the entire nation giving us the first true national championship in college football ever.
Now I now that SEC fans are howling in rage that this is unfair because they have all the best teams from top to bottom in the nation and only the best teams, in their opinion, should play for the national championship. The problem is that actually deciding who gets to compete for the national championship on the field of play has shown just how corrupt having a national championship by proxy was.
I am so glad that the media talking heads are out of using PR tactics and implicit bias of polling are out of the process. This was just so much better.
I just hope that the NCAA doesn’t get stupid and try to fix what isn’t broke.
