Charver, what is this about Birmingham banning apostrophes?

Banning apostrophes? How would we know if somebody owned something, or whether they meant "it is" over "its"?

Ah yes, the apostrophe story has been everywhere.

From what i can gather Birmingham have been quietly removing the apostrophes from street signs for some years now but have only just got round to admitting it.

Personally, i'd rather keep them in because i'm strange like that (I keep imagining some dark council lock-up filled with imprisoned apostrophes) but they reckon it is cheaper or something to get rid.

This bloody picture has been everywhere recently and it is driving me mad. I actually walk through this church square quite a bit and note that the picture must have been taken on a cold day because when it's warm you cannot move for tramps.

The weirdest part of the story for me was finding out that there is actually an "Apostrophe Preservation Society". Some people have too much time on their hands.
