Outraged passersby force Florida pastor to change signboard that read ‘Christmas - Easier to spell than Hanukkah’

Harmless holiday joke or insensitive religious taunt?
A Florida pastor’s outdoor church sign reading, “Christmas - Easier to spell than Hanukkah,” has ruffled some feathers in his North Palm Beach community after some people were offended and called on the church to take down the sign.
“It was not in any way, shape or form meant to be offensive or disparaging or mean-spirited,” Lighthouse Church Pastor Mike Butzberger told the Palm Beach Post. “And it’s sad to me there are people that are so humorless that they would be offended.”
Butzberger’s attempt at some holiday cheer apparently offended some. Calls to take down the sign wore on him, so he changed the board to read “Jesus Loves You.”
Butzberger, who wrote his doctoral dissertation on “humor as a communication tool in preaching,” told the Post the simple message was a joke — like a synagogue saying Hanukkah has eight days while Christmas has only one.
“If you ever tried to spell Hanukkah you’d see it’s spelled many ways,” he told the newspaper.
Area residents had a mixed reaction to the message — as did local religious leaders.
