Christmas only discussion.

For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given,
For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given,
For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given,
and the government shall be upon His shoulder;
and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor,
the Mighty God,
the Everlasting Father,
the Prince of Peace.

The wife and I are taking an extended period off of work for Christmas and New Year's. Hoping to get some work done on our bathroom remodel. Will likely attend a Christmas Eve church service somewhere local. Going to a New Year's Eve party where a favorite local band is playing, and rented a room a half a block away from the party. Should be a good time. We usually stay home on New Year's Eve.

I'm hoping to enjoy Christmas with my neighbor friends. This is looking like the last Christmas up here in Michigan. Fighting plenty of health issues but I'm still kicking along good enough to enjoy Christmas. I have little choice since the appointments to help me out scheduled months out. At least I'm hopeful we're getting to the root of some of my issues.

Casino-hopping along Mississippi Gulf Coast. After the kids left home, me and the Wife made this a ritual. Great Ride along the Coast, Gulf on one side, large Homes on the other. Fresh ground Dunkin' Donut coffee for the Ride, a Hundred Dollar Bill apiece, and Casinos about 10 to 20 miles apart. Enough time to talk about 'how we beat the House', or 'the House beat us'. :)

$100? Sounds like a quick evening. I don't really gamble much anymore but I used to do it for fun or a good cause. I used to play video poker after a meal at the local Casino restaurant. I'd burn through $20 dollars in as quick as 10 minutes or so. I imagine $100 might stretch to an hour+. Some times it lasts a bit longer and I end up leaving with about the same as what I started with in winnings.

:) We would both plan on spending 20 bucks per Casino. One of us would win while the other lost, or some version of that. The Theory was that 'The longer you stay, the more chance you will lose', so after 20 to 30 minutes we would head out to the next Casino. It was more about a Scenic Drive along the Gulf Coast on a Winter Day. It's great when it's a rainy day, or windy, ... once it 'snowed'. The ground covered with whiteness, looking at the water, looking at little 'snowflakes' falling from the sky ... surreal. There's Free Drinks and Free Entertainment and usually a discounted (or Free) Buffet or Food Court. It's just a nice serene way to spend a day that was usually a hectic event with 5 kids and christmas presents.

:) A pleasant contrast!

We generally celebrated Christmas on January 7 in the Christian Orthodox tradition.

My mother imbued in me a sense that Christmas is more about family and religious tradition rather than a consumer orgy.

Collectively it is a reminder to me that I consider Jesus of Nazareth to be one of the great moral philosophers of antiquity along with Confucius, the Buddha, and Muhammad.
