NEWARK, N.J. (Oct. 5) - Topps Meat Co. on Friday said it was closing its business, six days after it was forced to issue the second-largest beef recall in U.S. history and 67 years after it first opened its doors.

Perhaps if they had spent more on Quality Control...Darned short sighted businesses anyway.

Have to agree. I only skimmed the article earlier, but had the impression that these problems had surfaced during prior inspections. I guess it wouldn't have been too expensive, after all, to clean up and operate as per code, would it?
 
They may have been operating fully within code. Had they ever failed an examination before? It may have just been something of a natural disaster. No matter how rigorous the quality code is, bacteria can always get in there.
 
What examinations? The FDA has been pretty much gutted for such examinations. Industry has been supposed to police itself remember ?

Right. The sad thing is that 87 people lost their jobs. One guy they showed had been there for 33 years. What's he going to do now?
