Congressman-elect Allen West (R-Fla.) said he plans to join the Congressional Black Caucus next year.

West, one of two black Republicans elected to Congress in Tuesday's election, said he plans to join the Democratic-dominated bloc, to challenge, in West word's, the CBC's "monolithic voice."

"I plan on joining, I'm not gonna ask for permission or whatever, I'm gonna find out when they meet and I will be a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and I think I meet all of the criteria and it's so important that we break down this 'monolithic voice' that continues to talk about victimization and dependency in the black community," West said on WOR radio.

i'm white and if i am ever dumb enough to run for public office and then have dumb enough voters to vote me in....i would join as well...

CBC Chairman Barbara Lee implied a few weeks later in an interview with The Economist that black Republicans would be welcomed only if they conform to the group’s liberal guidelines. “The CBC has an agenda,” Lee told The Economist.


While the group’s by-laws forbid discrimination, it has never invited a white member of Congress to join. When Tennessee Democratic Rep. Stephen I. Cohen, who is white but represented a majority black district, made an effort to join in 2007, he was resoundingly discouraged from doing so and ultimately dropped his bid. California Democratic Rep. Pete Stark, also white, was excluded in his 1975 attempt.

Talk about your racist organization.

I'm not drunk. I just think it's kind of a dick move to do things for no reason other than to antagonize people. Trying to join the CBC as a white guy is like going to a party when you aren't invited and know that no one at the party likes you or wants you to be there just to be an asshole. What's the point?

LOL. How is anything I wrote indicative of me being a racist asshole? I simply think it's a dick move to do things just to be an asshole, like joining a group that doesn't want you simply because you can.

the black caucus doesn't want me because i'm white....wow....yeah...thats not racist nigel....

you are a racist because you think the black group is exclusive and should not allow whites....that you don't think that is racist, says alot about you
