I understand why it’s hard for normal people to believe that white evangelical Christians are sadists. Normal people have never been, as I was a long time ago, on the inside of that shadowy religious world. But the sooner they understand this, the sooner normal people will see that white evangelical Christian support for Donald Trump isn’t rooted in hypocrisy, contradiction or merely straying from the straight and narrow. The reason they support a fascist president is simple: They’re sadists.

The word “sadist” is off-putting. I get that. But if you’re thinking of sex, you’re thinking in the wrong way. If you’re thinking of “pleasure,” as in sexual pleasure, you’re thinking the wrong way. The pleasure white evangelical Christians derive from the suffering of human beings deemed less human than they are is not about sex. It’s about the pain, humiliation or even violence out-groups deserve by dint of being out-groups. Gay men, for instance, deserve their punishment because they are gay. Punishment for being gay is “divine justice.” From such “justice” comes pleasure—which is sadism.

I didn’t come up with the term. Richard Rorty did. I’m only pushing it as far to the fore as I can, because I don’t think normal people understand what they are facing, and if they don’t understand, they will keep treating sadists as if they have a legitimate place in a liberal democracy. Cruelty is the point, as Adam Serwer powerfully and famously put it in The Atlantic. But normal people must understand the animating force behind that cruelty. Sadists are sadistic not because they are cruel. It’s much simpler than that. They are cruel because being cruel to people deserving cruelty feels good.

Horrifying but true and I have been describing many of these Trump supporters as sociopathic for quite some time. Of course many supporters are merely trolls but the rest are these twisted and perverse sadists. More at the link.
 
I think they are Control-Freaks. They want what Iran and Saudi Arabia have, a Theocracy. They want a 'Christian nation' and they want to implement Christian Sharia Law.
(probably want to re-name the country 'The Christian Republic of America')
 
If these religious fanatics could have their way, we would be back to persecuting witches. Conservative evangelicals=America's Al-Qaeda .

They are destroying this nation and if we, who are the actual patriots and lovers of Democracy, do not confront this and make them ineffectual the grand experiment is over. We cannot even trust the ballot box at this point. I'm all for severing the ties and it appears that there might not be any other choice. The tyranny of the minority is ruling the majority and that is not my speed by a longshot.

And btw...we should be calling them "The Party of Trump."

In my opinion:
1. The Technology Revolution. Machines taking the Jobs of Man.
2. Globalization. Industrial and Manufacturing jobs being sent to Third World Countries where Labor Rates are extremely low.
3. Trump is a Con Artist.

America (and other First World Countries) are suffering a 'Middle Class Meltdown'. Their decent paying jobs are disappearing. The Western World is splitting into the 'Haves' and 'Have-Nots'.
Trump is able to convince the 'Have-Nots' that the 'Jobs of Yesterday' will Return.
The 'Haves' know better and are Joyful that their Portfolios are doubling and that Trump can keep the Rubes (the 'Have-Nots') in the Dark and totally Confused and Paralyzed.

Andrew Yang is discussing this, but the average Drone isn't paying much attention to this pressing problem. :(

So to your point of ridding the USA of this cancer that is Trump at the voting booth...what did any establishment Dem do to remedy any of this? What did any of them do to counter the groundwork that was being laid down to produce a Trump Presidency in the first place? The corporate and Wall Street friendly Dems all failed the people and the USA.

In my view, it's a Historical Event.

We're in the process of displacing millions of Middle Class Workers. Besides NOT having Answers, NO ONE is asking the Question ... ("What should we do?')
Trump conveniently comes along and tells the Gullible 'I will bring back the Industrial and Manufacturing Jobs'. 'I will bring back Coal'.

Trump is giving the Working Class a 'straw to grab'.
The Investing Class (that hold US Apple and Microsoft, also hold Chinese Tencent and Alibaba) could care less about the Working Class, their national Brothers and Sisters.

So another same old same old will eventually lead to another demagogue like Trump and possibly a much smarter version which will further greatly weaken our rule of law and democracy. We cannot afford that. I will vote for a vampire over Trump but we need a mover and shaker. Biden already reassured his donors that nothing will change and Buttigieg, from all I have read, heard and seen is a corporate tool. We need radical change. They threw Bloomberg into the mix so as not upset the corporate applecart.

That's a GREAT WAY to lose the Vote of the American Working Class.

Also the 'Free College for Everyone' idea, that the American Working Class knows they will never attend, but end up paying for. :)

Trump is a great Salesman, he has a Gift of telling people what they want to hear.

In my view. the Dems are checking off all the boxes (Blacks, LGBT, Muslims, etc.) ... except for the vast American Working Class.

Not just witches, but everyone who doesn't march in lockstep with Radical Jesus. LGBTQ ppl, as pointed out. Non-Xtians. Even Xtians of unapproved flavors, like LDS and RC. Single parents, except for the widowed. Not the right color (for some). Assertive women. Suspicious single men. Nonconformists of all flavors.
