A court in Thailand sentenced a political activist to two years in prison on Friday for violating a law against defaming the monarchy by affixing a sticker on a portrait of the country’s king.

The conviction for lese majeste appeared to be the first among scores of cases filed against protesters since the government revived prosecutions under the law in November 2020. Since then, it has charged at least 173 people with violating it, said Krisadang Nutcharas of the legal aid group Thai Lawyers for Human Rights.

Narin Kulpongsathron was accused of putting a sticker on a portrait of King Maha Vajiralongkorn in front of the Supreme Court on Sept. 19, 2020, the anniversary of a military coup that ousted the elected government of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Thailand is a genocidal hell hole, though not nearly as bad as Myanmar.

What I hate about the situation is the cutout buyers for the Chinese. Westerners living in Thailand buy property stolen from Thai people by the army, and then resell it to the Chinese. The Chinese are able to keep their hands clean, because they claim they did not know the land was stolen. When the Thai people rise up against the army, the westerners can just flee back home.

I say it is time to force westerners to prove they have clean hands, or to convict them in their home countries of crimes.

Who in their right mind would choose to live there

Many of the countries in Southeast Asia are known for their tropical diving... But it is getting harder and harder to ignore the genocide also happening.

Myanmar is deep into a revolution. Thailand and Indonesia are not be far behind. Many sane people are choosing to leave now, before they have to be evacuated.

Like in Russia, it's up to the Thai people to take back their country. It's not up to the West to save them from themselves since, IMO, that'd be racist.

We cannot force them to be free... But we can make clear to our own western citizens that cooperation in Thai oppression will be treated as a crime in the west.

I hope they never see Tommy's bedroom, with all the defaced King posters, FU KING!, and photos of the King in compromising positions. :rofl2:

Meanwhile, in America, a dwindling segment of the Reichwing cotillion cries that masks are tyranny.

Thai democracy activists sign up to fight 'tyranny' in Ukraine

BANGKOK, March 3 (Reuters) - Far-off Thailand might not seem an obvious place for recruits to Ukraine's efforts to raise an international volunteer force to defend against Russia's invasion.

But for former Thai Air Force conscript turned political activist Chanaphong "Ball" Phongpai, the cause is a natural fit for members of the pro-democracy movement that emerged in 2020 to protest a military-backed government in the Southeast Asian country.

"I have been involved in demanding democracy in my country ... and opposing tyranny," Chanaphong told Reuters in an interview.

"They (Ukrainians) are also fighting for democracy and is now invaded by a superpower and a tyrant, so I asked myself what I can do for them," he said.

Chanaphong and five friends visited the Ukrainian embassy in Bangkok on Wednesday and met with a staff member there after registering on a site gathering information on potential recruits.

I didn't know that Ukraine was recruiting from outside. How many of our brave RW patriots -- especially the ones with arsenals of bang-bangs who are praying to be able to use them someday -- do you think have volunteered?

Maybe they will make a remake of the king and I

Isn't that part of the Federal responsibility? Foreign treaties? If the Feds say we can't trade with another country, then that's their call.
