Damo,

How's it feel to live in a Blue State now? Dem Governor, and Dem legislature

Democrats "Surge" At State Level

CHICAGO, Nov. 8 -- Democratic gains in Congress and among the nation's governors were matched on Tuesday by a huge surge closer to the grass roots -- in the state legislatures, where more than 275 seats and 10 legislative chambers from Iowa to Oregon switched overnight from Republican to Democratic hands.

With those legislative victories combined with the six new Democratic governors elected on Tuesday, Democrats are now the one-party government in 15 states -- including New Hampshire for the first time since 1874, and Colorado for the first time since 1960. No party has controlled as many as 15 states since the Republicans achieved that exact number after the 1994 election.

But what was equally remarkable, said Tim Storey, a senior fellow at the National Conference of State Legislatures, a bipartisan group, is that the gains occurred everywhere in the country, even in the South, where Democrats lost ground in every statehouse election since 1982 -- until Tuesday. The gains there were tiny, about 20 legislative seats spread across 14 states, but the direction, Mr. Storey said, was the important thing.

just teasing, man

I'm not going to comment. I think I've been on Damo's last nerve lately. It's strange because I'm so sweet. My mother always said so!

with a majority of the statehouses and governors, let's redistrict some congressional republicans into extinction....turnabout is fair play!

Hah hah! Man you really are in my head. I hope that's on someone's agenda. How sweet would it be if they engineered a Blue Texas.

Ohio is going to be where some real serious redistricting action takes place I think. I'm all for it. One bad thing about dems is they lack the killer instinct. Rove and his ilk were planning and manupuliating for a permenant Republican majority. They wanted a one party country. They will put their foot on your neck while you are down to make sure you do not get up. The dems better remember that, but I think some of them are going to.

We could hire an Elvis impersonator to sing for Tom Delay:

It'll be a Blue Texas without you
Dubya's so blue just thinking about you
Elephants of red and a green money tree
Wont be the same dear, if youre not here with me

This war is not yet won by a long shot.

It's about the same as it was 8 years ago... Colorado is an odd duck.

according to the article, 1960 was the last time the Dems held the state legislature and the governor's mansion.

:clink:
However, they had one of the houses and the Democrats Mansion for a ton of time before that. Don't attempt to school me on the history of my own state.

Before Owens was Romer (D) 1987-1999, he had one of the houses D until near the end of his term. Before that it was Dick Lamm (D) 1975-1987
, he also had one of the houses D. Before him We had two R Governors, who also only had one house on their side....

Thanks for the off-topic history lesson, but the post was not about whether at various times, the Dems controlled one house the the legislature, or the governor's mansion.

As was stated previously, This is the first time since 1960, that Colorado is a one-party state, with dems controlling the governor, and the entire legislature....

Yeah, but it was also the first time in history that it was the opposite with Owens. However, it feels much like it did about 8 years ago. My original assertion stands.

Colorado goes back and forth, and the Ds we vote in are usually Conservative Ds. Notice that this Governor is a Pro-Life Democrat?
