Daughter going off to college?

Mommy, daddy, look at me
I went to school and I got a degree
All my friends call it the big D
I went to school and I got the big D
I got the big D
I got the big D
I got the big D
I went to school and I got the big D

Hey, you, over there
On the chaise longue, in your underwear
What are you doing sitting down?
You should be horizontal now

On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, all day long, on thе chaise longue
On the chaisе longue, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, all day long, on the chaise longue

Would you like us to assign someone to worry your mother?

Hey, you, in the front row
Are you coming backstage after the show?
Because I've got a chaise longue in my dressing room
And a pack of warm beer that we can consume

[Refrain]
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, all day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, all day long, on the chaise longue

On the chaise longue, all day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, all day long, on the chaise longue

Yes. In the fall of 199- something.
Nice to get that over width.
Nice to not have tuitions.
Nice to not constantly move her from one apartment to another. At least it seemed that's what we did. I used to rent vans.

Especially since, like myself as a student, she already lived in Boston anyway and could have fucking commuted from home.
But I couldn't do less for her than my parents did for me.
And when she was eighteen, it was a two-grown-women-under-one-roof situation anyway--not good-- and the earlier teens were an unmitigated disaster, but all's well that ends well.
(Not really in retrospect. It just seemed that way at the time.)

And with her, it never ended. She alternated classes and internships in her programs so it was an all-year round thing.
Her year studying in London was a welcome break, not that we didn't fly over to see her anyway.

But she graduated Summa Cum Laude with an immediate appointment to the police academy and a career path already in place thanks to contacts from her internship.

It's cool having a smart daughter. She and her mom have been pretty tight buddies since she left for college. And once she met her ex-husband, she started calling me "Dad" in front of him.
Before that, it was mostly ""Fatman."
