Boris The Animal

It's Just Boris!

Thirty years ago today, the Buffalo Fire Department suffered its worst LODD incident in its history. At 2237 hours, a 500 gallon propane tank being stored in a four story warehouse located at the intersection of N. Division and Grosvenor Streets in Buffalo's lower East side, leaked propane throughout the structure. Upon reaching a wood burning stove, the subsequent explosion, threw Ladder 5's ALF tiller 35 feet across the street killing these five gallant men and two civilians. The explosion also destroyed two Mack CF-611 pumpers and a 1974 Chevrolet Suburban chief's car. More than 70 people, including more than a dozen firefighters, were also injured in the blast, and the damaged ranged from leveled structures to blown out windows over a 1-1/2 mile radius. Let us remember the lives of these Buffalo Firefighters, and the legacy they leave behind.
