A felon and registered sex offender wanted on multiple warrants is facing attempted murder and other charges after he allegedly shot at one moving vehicle from another in Southeast Portland.
Jamari Chapala, 28, was arrested a short time after the incident unfolded near 11200 SE Division around 10:15 a.m. Police were investigating a shots fired call from one moving car to another.
After interviewing the victim, police got a search warrant on the suspected vehicle, finding a handgun. Chapala, identified as the vehicle’s owner, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on Sunday.
Chapala is facing charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm in public, unlawful discharge of a firearm, failure to report as a sex offender and 4 arrest warrants.
