Democrats gain, but support is soft

By Peter Grier, The Christian Science Monitor
WASHINGTON — Political strategist Karl Rove has long dreamed of an America where a clear majority of voters are Republicans. But he's leaving the White House at a time when GOP popularity is at its lowest ebb in years.

In 2002 the two great parties that govern the nation were at rough parity in terms of adherents. But now half of U.S. voters lean toward or identify themselves as Democrats, according to figures by the non-partisan Pew Research Center in Washington. The corresponding figure for Republicans has slid to 35%.

Sounds about right. So, Bush's approval rating pretty much almost exactly tracks with how many people self-identify as republicans.

Which probably means that virtually every republican in the country still thinks this moron is doing a good job. lol

That was my thought as well.

Well, none of them on here will admit to it.

But we know how a few would respond to the survey.
since it is a survey I figure the 35% is higher than would be admitted to in public.

Bush has redefined the Republican party. If you're a Republican and you still support Bush...what do you stand for? Are you able to keep a straight face while saying you're a fiscal conservative? Do you think America should pursue an interventionist foreign policy? What about immigration?

The GOP is lost. I don't think the Democrats have stepped up to give Americans a broad, clear alternative yet, but the opportunity is there. The only thing Rove can potentially be the "architect" of is a faceless, vaguely defined minority.

That's just desserts for the 51% Presidency, and for all of the dirty politics they played with Gore & Kerry....

Closet Bush lovers. It's as if, being a bush supporter is the new homosexuality, which conversely, is out of the closet. Interesting.

Well, let me quote Topper ":clink: "

As with global warming, WMD, and climate change, republican keep changing their reasons. The reasons they voted for Bush.

I think the latest excuse, to explain why they voted for an underqualified moron twice, is because it was the Democrats fault for not putting up someone better than Gore or Kerry.

That's so lame. I wasn't exactly thrilled with Kerry as a candidate, but there really was no comparison between the 2 men. Bush has always been in so far over his head, from day 1; I don't know how 2-time Bush voters can live with themselves...

Bush is doing such a good job he's got me as Hillary's #1 backer on this site:clink:

I am surprised to find you on here, still pushing The Hillary, after I gave your toady, the not a lefty lefty, Superfreak, a cyber-skewering that is still being talked about, when he agreed with your stupit Hillary for President theory?

HEY RJS don't be skewering my main finaincial advisor. How will I ever be able to move out of the trailer park with him all skewered ?
