Dems Seem Lost... let me help!

Government lacks authority in the realm of individual conscience, as this is something rational people could not cede to the government for it or others to control. - John Locke

For Locke, this created a natural right in the liberty of conscience, which he argued must therefore remain protected from any government authority.

These views on religious tolerance and the importance of individual conscience, along with his social contract, became particularly influential in the American colonies and the drafting of the United States Constitution.

Nothing in the social conservative plank denies the right of individual conscience, or attempts to govern it in any way. Most Christians believe we all have free will, and if we believe we are endowed rights by our Creator, we most certainly aren't able to dictate the terms of those rights as men. The very founding principles which proclaim freedom endowed by a Creator, also prohibit us from messing with those very freedoms. It's self evident, according to the founding fathers. This is how we can construct a moral foundation for our nation without paying homage to a particular religious tenant or faith. Freedom OF religion, simply doesn't mean Freedom FROM religion, and it never has--never will!
