Twitter is currently buzzing about the death of Dennis Ritchie, the visionary creator of UNIX and C, among other things. We hope it's just a false rumor. Story developing, we will be updating. Update: Unfortunately, it seems to be confirmed. Rob Pike, co-creator of the Plan 9 and Inferno OSes, who has worked with Ritchie in the past, and he's currently working for Google's GO language, posted this.
 
Dude is the God of computers. If you're running Linux or Mac OS X, he created your operating system. If you're running Windows, your fail operating system has had to be modified many many times over the past decade or two in order to be half as competent as his operating system.

And he made C, a language in which everything important today is programmed in.

This was A COMPUTING GOD, whom Steve Jobs doesn't even barely measure up to. Fuck you, Steve Jobs.

Kernigan and Ritchie is the bible of the C language, he was one of the true giants of the computer world.
