Dick Durbin annihlates Republican arguments on medical malpractice

Durbin doesn't get it.

Republicans can't be shamed into acting like decent human beings with tactics like this.

They like their government-sponsored health care. They love their government pensions. Bernie Sanders tried to get them to vote into giving up their federal pensions, and convert them all into individual 401(k)s, and the GOP didn't take the offer.

when republicans talk about "small government" let's be clear on what they mean: they mean the part of government includes medicare, social security, food stamps, and unemployment benefits, et. al.

They have zero intention of giving up their own federal pension, their own government-financed healthcare, and they certainly don't want to cut pentagon spending, or federal stimulus spending directed towards their own states.

not even close to an annihilation, then again, WM sees a dem talk and orgasms in his pants

1. 5 billion is not a lot of money when compared to overall h/c.....dumbest fucking argument ever. he just said it was a lot of money, then to argue its not really a lot.

2. argues that we tort reform will cause doctors not to be more careful, essentially that if we cap awards, they will not care about their patients as much. again, stupid argument....and then he argues, well....but our bill includes things that will help them not make mistakes and kill a hundred thousand people a year....yeah....what? he is really suggesting that doctors, hospitals, nurses won't be more careful because awards are capped? stupid argument.

3. the award cap of 250K is absurd and should never be considered. it is stupid.

4. if med mal awards have decreased by over 4 billion dollars, how is it med mal insurance continues to rise?

5. the argument about giving up your federal funded insurance (congress) is the dumb argument. if i work at boeing and get X insurance, does that mean because you don't work at boeing that you're entitled to the same insurace i am evne though you don't work for my company? the argument proffered by durbin is a logical fallacy because they get that insurance because they work for the federal government and they wrote that policy themselves.

if he wants to go that route, then everyone should have the same plan as congress. hey durbin, if the public option or whatever you're advocating is good enough for the common folk, why don't you use that same insurance.

Repubs might be stretching wealth redistribution to socialism. But bless them for holding off this obamo ation as long as possible.

Putting things in proportion: stupid.

You heard it here first. The fact is that the Republicans are projecting this as a universal panacea, when there solution would do shit. Republicans should be impeached, every one of them.

? not sure exactly what you're saying

they never said it was the end all be all....but ONE step

so you actually think it is a good idea to denounce possible savings of 5 billion dollars? didn't obama tout some 1 billion dollar "savings" a couple months ago and paraded it around as if he were being fiscally responsible?

let be clear, i don't think the repubs are right on this, it won't save 5 billion or whatever they claim. but to knock down the argument because saving 5 BILLION is nothing compared to overall h/c is just stupid.

now, if they said they won't compromise or whatnot solely based on this one issue, then that is stupid. but that is not what durbin said, he mocked the savings as de minimis compared to the overall TRILLIONS.
