That the construction industry has one of the highest suicide rates in America these days ? There are many factors being listed as causes but one of them is often conveniently being left out,...furthermore I think it may well be the main driver behind the epidemic. There is simply no one coming up. Not nearly enuff. Not talking about unskilled labor mind you,...but ACTUAL tradesmen. So whats happening is this.........anyone working as SKILLED labor has to damn near work themselves to death to make up for the shrinking labor pool. Mega hours, mega pressure, years of work booked ahead with MAYBE half the skilled labor force needed. Skilled labor having to primarily work with a bunch of unskilled labor leads to a situation where there are very few IF ANY that actually KNOW what is going on on a jobsite. I tell you what,....if you think the cost of housing is high now,....just wait,....you havent seen anything yet!

Construction has a high suicide rate, but certainly not the highest. There are many with several times higher.

Maybe there is a shortage of skilled construction labor where you are, but not around here. We are having trouble finding low skilled workers, which in construction is a relative thing. Someone who is both willing, and able to shovel dirt into a wheelbarrow is a hard thing to find. It is categorized as low skilled, but it is a skill.
