Republicans shutdown the government to defund or delay Obamacare. This goes to the heart
of Republican base thinking about the essential political battle. They think they face a victorious
Democratic Party that is intent on expanding government to increase dependency and
therefore electoral support. It starts with food stamps and unemployment benefits; expands
further if you legalize the illegals; but insuring the uninsured dramatically grows those dependent
on government. They believe this is an electoral strategy—not just a political ideology
or economic philosophy. If Obamacare happens, the Republican Party may be lost, in their
view.

seems to me this does far more about dissecting the Democrats than the Republicans.....except it isn't just about insuring the uninsured......that's why they created a system wherein they control EVERYONE'S insurance.....

Dear Deshy,

You have been wringing your hands about this shutdown since last week yet you can't tell us one thing that has impacted your life in any material way. When pressed, the only thing you can say is you are upset that the 1% and Wall St have taken a hit with the stock market. I didn't know you had such a soft spot for the 1% and Wall St.

So that's it? The stock market has gone down? You must be one of those 1%ers if it has really impacted you because we know from the OWS protesters that the 99% has very little in the stock market to worry about.

Besides, one of the conservatives on this site (Damo?) used the fact that the stock market didn't fall in the first day or two as proof the shutdown wasn't a big deal. now it's falling. Can't have it both ways, conservatives.

The stock market is for the 1% that is what lefties always say. The 99% don't have enough in 401Ks to matter. That is what you lefties always say Deshy. Stock market is only for the rich. That is why we can't privatize it remember?

Desh, you have previous complained about the rise in income inequality and the stock market growth over the past few years has been a massive contributor to income inequality (a large majority of the gains going to the top 1%) yet you are complaining about the market dropping because people have 401k's?
