While up to 5 years in jail without a trial is possible, it is extremely rare. In addition, the trial, and retrials can take years.

It is rare, and mostly happens in the state systems. I doubt it happened with many of the January 6th terrorists. It has been four years, so they would have had to been caught immediately, and then had their trials delayed for a long time. That does not sound likely.

Then again, I did not believe that US Marshals were attacking a federal prison in DC... AND I WAS RIGHT, it was a complete fiction :cool:
