Do you consider Churches as Charities or Businesses?

My opinion is they are just businesses with special tax exemptions like the oil companies...

What is a churches role in society? And no dont say they provide free services like marriages and stuff....All that stuff is extra....

Church money is going to pay people's salaries... I wanna know how much money is actually going to help other people beside the church leaders....

I know some people from Campus for Christ...They raise money to pay themselves!

Charities should be about redistribution of money to the poor....

Churches are redistribution the money to itself....Its just like a giant pyramid scheme...

And we got mega pastors and their private jets and beachfront mansions.... What do they spend the churches money on? To build themselves universities!

Lets get rid of tax exemption for churches and make them play by the same rules as all other businesses....

It depends on the church. I see most Christian (and other religions, too) houses of worship as non-profit organisations that really only make enough money to self-sustain and pay for the staff.

Prosperity gospel churches, on the other hand, should be taxed like hell. There is no reason a preacher should drive a Rolls-Royce.

Some would say it is OK for him to drive what he wants to drive but I tend to agree with you on this part. I think Ray Stevens had it right in his song "Would Jesus Wear a Rolex?"

Well, yes, it is ok for him to drive what he wants to drive...but a church should not be making enough money to provide him with such a car.

Yep and like churches may "charitible" organizations use the majority of their money for their own operations.
