Do you support amnesty?

I am just curious how many of you who rail against amnesty in immigration support programs like this?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Government investigators say more than 39,000 tax cheats have come clean under a series of programs that offered reduced penalties and no jail time to people who voluntarily disclosed assets they were hiding overseas.
In all, the Internal Revenue Service recouped more than $5.5 billion.
But there's more.
The Government Accountability Office suspects that thousands of other taxpayers have quietly started reporting foreign accounts without paying any penalties or interest. A new report by the government watchdog says the number of people reporting foreign accounts to the IRS nearly doubled from 2007 to 2010, to 516,000 accounts.
The report says the sharp increase suggests that some people are simply starting to report their accounts without taking part in the disclosure programs.http://news.yahoo.com/tax-cheats-pony-5-5-billion-amnesty-program-190719949.html?utm_source=feedly

We should take away their citizenship, ship them to Guantanamo, then before they're allowed to be citizens fine them a billion dollars to pay down the debt they created.

Is there a connection between the two?

Is there a connection between the two?

Absolutely. Some argue that we should not give amnesty of any kind because the "illegal immigrants" broke our laws. They claim they are not really against immigration but that there should be no reform until we punish all the "criminals."

Where are all the opponents of amnesty and why are they not demanding that these people be punished?

It's a lot like the fake advocates of freedom who claim to support free markets when talking about the borrowers but not so much for the bankers. Same people same real reason underlying their duplicity in both examples.

look, it doesn't keep me up at night. But I personally think amnesty sets a bad precedent with other laws involving protecting our border. I am not against immigration, I am against people giving the middle finger to us as their first act upon entering our country. Most nations in the world have border policies, and it's not xenophobic to want to have some laws here and enforce them, and not reward those that circumvented them.

WOW what a stunningly artful argument. Yes I have changed my mind and I no longer mind if we don't enforce any if our laws.

Thank you for making me see the light with your ingenious straw man.

Only light I would see from that straw man he so brilliantly sent forth is if they soaked it in gasoline, hoisted it up a 20 ft pole at midnight and lit it up.Then only for the short duration that it was burning and lighting up the dark night sky...

Are you just trolling because the others are being such cowards?

What about these tax cheats?

There goes Johnny Chickenshit Reb, evading the point about his lack of consistency. There is no stawman.

If you demand the laws be followed and no allowances given then you should be upset by this tax amnesty. Where is the outrage?

OK...I understand your position and I mostly agree with you. The problem is that it's physically and fiscally impractical to round them all up and deport them.

I am OK with amnesty...However, I don't want to be going through this shit again in a decade or so. So, once that decision is made to "do something" about the people that ARE here.... it should be contingent upon making sure it never happens again. I don't care if we end up with a DMZ on the borders, if it stops future issues like this. We have enough of our own problems to argue about

Yeah, it's only been 27 years since the last one. :palm:

well.

if you put a gun to my head, I would say no amnesty for tax cheats either.

but I feel less mad at them because the people putting their money in off shore accounts imo have already paid into this bloated government 10-fold, they are doing what they can to keep the takers away from their well earned money.

Again, I have to think you are just trolling as you just conceded the point that the "law and order" argument is nothing but a bullshit pretext to punish people you don't like.

Immigrants contribute as well and they are just trying to avoid unjust and inefficient government.

We should seek to fix our immigration policy just just as we should fix our tax policies. The "they broke our lawrs" argument is nothing but a dodge.

I don't mind law breakers being punished. You act as if I have sway over this administration. Newsflash. Maobama isn't taking my calls. Take it up with Holder

Obama would not take a call from me. Which saves him from being told what a lying punkass chump he is. Although he likely already knows it. Michelle probably tells him often enough.:)

they have no standing, as they should not be here.

I don't believe in amnesty for either. In the latter case, to offer amnesty suggests that there is something that needs to be forgiven.

Not every situation or lawbreaking is equal. As tax payers we are slaves to the whims over government. Those rich enough to find it necessary to put their money off shore have been unfairly gutted, and morally I find their actions far more justifiable.
