Does evangelical christianity approve of slavery and worse?

Every evangelical I debate with says every word of God is the truth, including the Old Testament. I didn't say it. They did. They said the Old Testament is the word of God/truth. Here's the problem with that.

(Deuteronomy 20:10-14)

As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

(Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)


However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.


(Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)


When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property.


If every word of God is the truth then these passages are the truth....THEY APPROVE OF SLAVERY AND MURDER!!!
 
the bible is like a buffet. People just pick and choose what they want to hear and believe. One reason it is so popular.
 
That slavery was very different from what was practiced in the Western Hemisphere. Also, the Mosaic Law shaped "slavery" into something we would recognize as "indentured servitude." Except Mosaic Law had a zero tolerance policy on abuse, whereas 40% of indentures in British North America died because they were treated horribly. Jews were required to help fleeing slaves escape, and masters couldn't harm them, making it virtually impossible for anyone who fled to be recaptured.
 
But it's still slavery! Those passages by god said it was ok to purchase and beat slaves!
 
yeah well someone can write down anything and get enough people to believe it is gods word, then it pretty much becomes gods word.
 
And thats where the evangelicals call you a troll and "lol lol lol" at you, while saying you have provided no facts to back your argument. Then you get banned.

There are basically no facts to back up religion either. Heck they cannot even prove Jesus walked on the earth.
All Faith.
 
And that's why they never come here to debate over their religions. They only hang out on their own turf except a few brave ones. Same goes with far left liberals and far right conservatives. That Firemedic227 guy kept avoiding every question I asked him about his faith. And when I challenged him to a debate on a liberal christian forum, he never showed up.
 
We used to have a lot more far righties on here. I think they got embaressed lately. only 2-3 now.
about the same number of far lefties. and the rest of us are pretty scattered.
