Donald Trump's 'inept and insufficient' COVID-19 response

Trump did fine, his only major mistake was trusting the CDC to be competent, trusting the "experts".

Donald Trump is a stain on this nation. Even ignoring his terribly inept handling of the pandemic, one can only feel agony over his divisiveness and how successful he was at spreading various conspiracy theories among his millions of followers. The man is a self-serving piece of shit and dimwitted people like you too eagerly enable him.

I am hyper-educated, and right a high percentage of the time, that's what the education was for.

The CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports are authored by career scientists and serve as the main vehicle for the agency to inform doctors, researchers and the general public about how Covid-19 is spreading and who is at risk. Such reports have historically been published with little fanfare and no political interference, said several longtime health department officials, and have been viewed as a cornerstone of the nation's public health work for decades.

But since Michael Caputo, a former Trump campaign official with no medical or scientific background, was installed in April as the Health and Human Services department's new spokesperson, there have been substantial efforts to align the reports with Trump's statements, including the president's claims that fears about the outbreak are overstated, or stop the reports altogether.

Caputo and his team have attempted to add caveats to the CDC's findings, including an effort to retroactively change agency reports that they said wrongly inflated the risks of Covid-19 and should have made clear that Americans sickened by the virus may have been infected because of their own behavior, according to the individuals familiar with the situation and emails.

‘You know my Uncle was a great — he was at MIT,’ the president said while standing next to health officials who are working to contain the outbreak of coronavirus.

‘He taught at MIT for a record number of years. He was a great super genius, Dr. John Trump.’

‘I like this stuff. I really get it.

‘People are surprised that I understand it.

'Every one of these doctors said: "How do you know so much about this?"

Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.'

Yeah, they should have listened to Dr. Dotard, he IS "Jenius", after all.

Oddly, the author of the editorial cited in the OP is an advocate for single payer government healthcare, and he blames the lack of same for the majority of Bidenvirus deaths.

Its a Regressive Left political sales job mostly. One of the few things that is right is that the community health systems have been in steep decline for a lot of years, not only has the funding plummeted but so did basic caring about even making an attempt to do things right.

Indeed.
