Dream Act: pros and cons

Cancel 2018. 3

<-- sched 2, MJ sched 1
pros:

it allows children who came here by no choice of their own a chance to participate in the american dream. they have a HS diploma or a GED. the act allows them a chance at legal residency should they complete two years of college or two years of military. the residency would be conditional. instead of hiding in the shadows, they can become good little taxpayers and they will be either educated (somewhat) or have experience from the military. they have to have good character.

why wouldn't we want them as conditional residents?

cons:

though the illegal immigrants (MSM just says immigrants ) did not come here of their own volition, this act, if not curtailed or tailored, will undoubtedly inspire other illegal immigrants to enter this country illegally. the Act rewards illegal behavior.

Punishing the illegal immigrants children is an additional step of retribution and may reduce illegal immigration more than just punishing the person responsible for the illegal immigration, but I don't think that's right. The point of this act is to allow children who are culturally American stay. They will be out of place if we send them to Mexico.

fair point

your con does not make sense, if the children were brought to the us by illegal parents, then how does this encourage more children to enter the us illegally

The Act doesn't reward illegal behavior as the children are not behaving illegally. They had no choice but to accompany their parents. If a child is present when a parent shoplifts the child is not considered an accomplice.

A quick way to end this problem would be to send the parents back and keep the children here. It would only take a couple of well publicized cases for people to quickly learn that should they come here illegally they will lose their children.

at a point in time when logic questions the existence of anchor babies, it is foolish to add the problem of anchor graduates.......

additional problems
1) financial aid to non US citizens
2) no requirement of attending classes let alone passing them
3) only requires two years of college instead of four
4) verification

1) While the children are not acting illegally by their own choice, they are indeed breaking the law.

2) The Act does indeed reward illegal behavior. It says to the parents 'if you get your kids here illegally, we will make them legal citizens' (provided they meet requirements)

3) Your 'solution' is one of the worst I have heard.... EVER. What the hell are we going to do with the kids? Orphanages? You need to rethink that (assuming of course you actually 'thought' before posting that crap)

lol, considering apple's opinion of orphanages I'm sure that's his last choice.....

And you have shown the slippery slope; because if this passes, I can guarantee you that the next thing the liberals would be crying about, is "You're splitting up families. THINK OF THE CHILDREN AND HOW THEY SUFFER BEING FORCED TO BE AWAY FROM THEIR PARENTS".
