Drop boxes are trusted ballot return options

Drop boxes are secure locations where you can safely submit a completed mail ballot. They are put in place by government officials and are often under 24-hour surveillance. Only election officials can access a ballot once it’s placed in a drop box.

Using an official drop box can be a more reliable option when there are concerns about the time it may take a ballot to go through the U.S. Postal Service. A ballot submitted to an official drop box before the deadline will reach an election official in time to be counted.

Official ballot drop boxes provided by government representatives are secure and reliable. If a voter submits more than one mail ballot or tries to vote in person after already voting by mail, only one ballot will be counted.

trusted by those seeking simple ways to stuff ballot boxes.

A simple proof of that will be in 2022 and 2024 if there is a recorded precipitous drop in repeated cell phone pings near them where there were many before... You may not agree with the movie 2000 Mules, but if mules they were the next time(s) around they won't be carrying a cell phone knowing they could be tracked in their activities by it...

the need to cheat is much lower in midterms as is the money to fund it so i doubt we will be able to tell much.

Drop boxes have been used for years, in a number of states and never a problem. That is until Trump lost the last election, and you discovered another way to keep people from voting.

Drop boxes have only been in wide use since about 2014. Before 2000 they weren't in use at all. Outside of that, the length of use is really just an irrelevant appeal to longevity. Their non-use keeps no one from voting. It may make the process less convenient, but then I for one really don't want the stupid and lazy voting at all because they don't know and don't care enough to consider who they are voting for.

Drop boxes are secure locations

they can be.....they can even be used in constitutional elections if approved by the state legislatures in states where they are not prohibited by their state constitutions.......

it sad that lib'ruls didn't realize it could have been done right before they did it wrong..........

Now, a great way to make them more secure, and prevent mass ballot dumps (eg., ballot harvesting tactics) is simply to add a barcode scanner to the machine and a generic barcode (eg., all ballots have one and it's the same). The person dropping off scans the barcode and the box allows one ballot to be inserted. Want to put in a second? Wait 10 seconds, then scan in another ballot and insert one into the box.
If you're a mule dumping dozens in, you'll be standing there for quite a while doing your thing. A dozen ballots would take 2+ minutes to insert. It'd be obvious on surveillance video what you were doing...
