John Durham was appointed by Attorney General Barr in April 2019 to investigate an alleged conspiracy against Trump before and after the 2016 election. He was tasked with “broadly examining the government's collection of intelligence involving the Trump campaign's interactions with Russians".
The review by Durham at one point veered into a criminal investigation related to Trump himself, even as it failed to find wrongdoing in the origins of the Russia inquiry. Great detail here, well worth reading:

How many prosecutions has Durham brought? Three:
Kevin Clinesmith, low-level FBI attorney. Accused of altering an email during the renewal of a FISA warrant against Carter Page. Pleaded guilty; 12 months probation.
Michael Sussmann, partner in the law firm Perkins Coie. Accused of falsely telling FBI general counsel James Baker that he was not representing a client in their discussions. Found not guilty.
Igor Danchenko, Washington-based Russia analyst. Accused of lying to the FBI about one of his sources in the Trump-Russia investigation. Found not guilty.
“This was an overthrow of government, this was an attempted overthrow, and a lot of people were in on it” – Trump, December 2019.
By last September the cost of the investigation had passed $6.5 million. Hey, it made the Trumpsters happy while it lasted! Remember when Durham was confidently predicted to prosecute Obama and Biden?
