It looks like Elizabeth isn't going to make it. She's a brave, classy woman and my thoughts are with her.

Elizabeth Edwards’s cancer has spread, and she has been advised by doctors that it would be “unproductive” to continue treatment, according to a statement issued by the Edwards family and a posting on her Facebook page.

The 61-year-old estranged wife of former Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards is resting at home in North Carolina after a brief hospitalization.

The Edwards family said in a statement Monday that “Elizabeth has been advised by her doctors that further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive,” the family said Monday in a statement. “She is resting at home with family and friends and has posted this message to friends on her Facebook page.”

In the posting, Ms. Edwards said, “The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that.”

Oh, no this makes me cry and especially after the way things have been for her this last year, but all that negativity! All that awful press about her husband and what he did, that really doesn't help when you are fighting for your life!

Wonder if John sleeps well, knowing what he did to that poor woman.

I feel for her and her children. I knew this would be the outcome when I heard it was stage 4. She's gone through more than her share of trials, this is evidence that riches do not buy you happiness.

Johns a scumbag. I see him as the type that is glad to soon be single again.

I have no kind words for that man.

I hear ya. At one time I thought he was a decent person who had a blue-collar upbringing and was a friend of the working man. But he let the power and perks go to his head in a really ugly way. A pox on him.

He is at her side, I hear, now that is the power of forgiveness and Elizabeth is a saint.
I cry every time I think about her. Why is it some of us make it and others do not...I had a great support network and nothing to distract me from getting well, that could be a big part of recovery. I also think marijuana made a drastic difference in how my body handle the chemo. I did so much better than some of my counterparts! I am feeling so grateful and blessed today and glad to be alive.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Joy to the World! May peace be with the Edwards family.

Yeah, I was going to say, our Rana is a ninja warrior when it comes to cancer.

Why do you assume she was unable to find happyness? I was always impressed with her upbeat nature.

My father found happyness during the 10 months after his diagnosis.

Ya, but that does not necessarly make someone unhappy.

Right she was thrilled that her and her children were publically huimiliated while fighting for her life ~

No one has said that she was not a resilliant woman or that she didn't fight with grace and dignity in spite of her philandering husbands betrayals...

I'm sure she wasn't happy about that, but that doesn't mean her life was an unhappy one.

Cripes; you are happy with every single thing that happens in your life?

Did you read jarods post to damo? No ONE said she was not happy...though I think that is likely an ill fitting term under the circumstances...I am sure she made peace and found moments of joy despite her cancer and the betrayal of her husband.

Why do you assume that I was speaking about her? And do you think it was her wealth that brought that happiness, or was it from somewhere else? Do you think happiness came from her husband's wealth and fame, or from a different source?

Her wealth did not stave off the most difficult of trials in her life, any happiness did not extend from the money.

i think that in addition to the joy and happiness that was embodied in her, her ability to fend off life's slings and arrows was amazing - she just kept on trucking with occasional pauses to pick herself up and continue
