Honestly have never known why this guy was famous other than the name, but in case any of you were/are fans:

Elvis Costello has revealed he was recently diagnosed with “a small but very aggressive cancerous malignancy” and has cancelled tour dates while he recovers from the subsequent treatment.

Writing on his website, the singer-songwriter said: “Six weeks ago my specialist called me and said, ‘You should start playing the Lotto.’ He had rarely, if ever, seen such a small but very aggressive cancerous malignancy that could be defeated by a single surgery.” The message is the first time Costello has revealed his battle with cancer. He added: “I was elated and relieved that our European summer tour could go ahead.”

Having been told he would need three to four weeks of recovery, Costello began the tour, and played a number of concerts across Europe. But he has been advised to cancel the remaining dates by his doctor. “The spirit has been more than willing but I have to now accept that it is going to take longer than I would have wished for me to recover my full strength,” Costello said, adding apologies to fans who bought tickets for the cancelled concerts, who are told they should go to “point of purchase” for refunds.

I enjoyed a few of his songs. I am not an ardent fan, but it is always sad news when someone has cancer.

I honestly cannot think of a single one of his songs I have heard. To me he has been more of a famous for being famous person than a musician of note.

That's where you are 100% wrong.

I'm not a big fan either, but he is one of the most highly respected musicians not only amongst fans, but amongst his peers in the music industry as well.

Noticed you couldn't think of any of his songs either.

He said he wasn’t a fan, but the guy obviously has them. He has over 30 albums and has been performing since the 70’s.

He had 2 # 1's, 1 #4, and 1 #6 in 89, 91, 89 & 94 respectively Not a single one of them I have ever heard of https://www.billboard.com/music/elvis-costello/chart-history/alternative-songs

He's collaborated with some of the biggest names in all of the music industry, too.

Here he is on stage with some no-name dude named Paul McSomething-or-other.....

....a small timer who's known to collaborate with other no-names.

Most of my introductions to his new music was from appearances on David Letterman. Letterman was/is a huge fan of his and had him as frequent musical guest.

AAMOF, he liked Costello so much, than when he was in the hospital for open heart bypass surgery, Costello was one of the people he chose to fill in as guest host...
