Really fantastic story, I hope it all works out for him.

More than four decades after Carlos Santana and his drummer Marcus Malone parted ways, the two were reunited on the streets of Oakland, California, where the talented musician has been living after falling on hard times.

The heartwarming encounter was made possible thanks to the efforts of local news reporter Stanley Roberts, who came across Malone earlier this month while reporting on illegal dumpsites for his segment 'People Behaving Badly' for the station KRON4.

When Roberts first interviewed Malone, the unkempt, bearded man in a big red parka was rummaging through piles of garbage.

Do the crime, do the time. Should a criminal expect to keep pace with law-abiding citizens? I've never been convicted of a crime and I'm a paycheck or two away from the streets, so you'll have to excuse me if I can't muster up any sympathy for an ex-con. Guys like this used to serve as examples for the rest of us to know why we should follow laws. These days, people like you want to hold them up as examples to emulate.

I have never understood why someone would think society is best served by merely punishing people instead giving them dome tools to be better citizens.

That is not very compassionate, many people get caught up in bad stuff when young.

because people are supposed to see the person who got punished and say to themselves "I should not do what they did".

This in turn helps society by teaching people to understand the consequences of breaking the law.

How does rewarding someone who broke the rules by GIVING them the tools, as you say, better a society that you TAKE from to fund your assbackwards ideals?

The convict has all his needs met and is compelled to do nothing in exchange while the law-abiding working poor hover near poverty and work 60 hour weeks to make rent and feed themselves, and now, buy health insurance for coverage that will pale in comparision to the treatment the convict will recieve, again on the tax-payers' tab.

Your appeal to emotion is misplaced unless you feel the convict is more deserving of help.

Yes I am sure that San Quentin was a real paradise in the 60s.

Seeing as you are so interested he was in San Quentin for manslaughter which he says was self defence. Happy now??
