who do we reserve our empathy for?

right now:
a portion of our nation is on fire;
a portion of our nation is under water or recently devastated by flooding;
there are nations at war within themselves or at war with others
the list goes on and on
what do we as individuals or as a nation do about it...if anything
how many of us consider ourselves a part of a religious or philosophical organization or body of thought and follow the precepts of said
are we still the united states of america or the disunited states of america
will it require another attack on us to unite us
we are on our second administration of 'not my president'?
