"Engineer" killed in Tesla crash on Silicon Valley freeway was playing on his phone

WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Transportation Safety Board says the driver of a Tesla SUV who died in a Silicon Valley crash two years ago was playing a videogame on his smartphone at the time.

Chairman Robert Sumwalt said at the start of a hearing Tuesday that partially automated driving systems like Tesla’s Autopilot cannot drive themselves. Yet he says drivers continue to use them without paying attention. He says the board made recommendations to six automobile makers in 2017 to stop the problem and only Tesla TSLA, -1.34% has failed to respond.

Just before the crash, the Tesla steered to the left into a paved area between the freeway travel lanes and an exit ramp, the NTSB said. It crashed into the end of the concrete barrier. The car’s forward collision didn’t alert Huang, and its automatic emergency braking did not activate, the NTSB said.

Huang did not brake, and there was no steering movement detected to avoid the crash, the board’s staff said.

NTSB investigators previously found that Tesla’s system became confused at a freeway exit and was a factor in the crash. Documents released earlier this month quoted Huang’s relatives as saying Huang had previously complained about Autopilot malfunctioning and swerving in the area near where crash occurred.

The Dems did not design it. They bought it.

If I'd said that "the" DEMOCRATS designed it, you'd have a point, Nerdberg.

Since I said that DEMOCRATS designed it (and DEMOCRATS did), you don't.

I'd suggest that you do some research, Nerdberg.

Shadow Inc. is a political technology company that develops mobile apps designed to register, organize, and mobilize voters. The company gained attention after their IowaReporterApp software failed during the 2020 Iowa DEMOCRAT caucuses.

The company, originally named Groundbase, was launched in December 2016 by Gerard Niemira and Krista Davis, who both worked on the digital outreach team for DEMOCRAT Hillary Clinton's failed 2016 presidential campaign.

In January 2019, the company was acquired by Acronym, a left-leaning political nonprofit organization for which Niemira was also the COO and CTO. Shadow is a for-profit company. Acronym's CEO, Tara McGowan, described Shadow as "a political technology company".

Acronym (styled ACRONYM) is a Washington, D.C.-based American 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation, co-founded by Tara McGowan and Michael Dubin in 2017. The organization is one of the major coordinators and producers of digital media campaigns aligned with the DEMOCRAT Party, and has been hired by or has provided support to various other organizations including the DEMOCRAT Congressional Campaign Committee, Emily's List, Everytown for Gun Safety, and Planned Parenthood. It is the owner of Shadow, Inc., a technology company that made the mobile application software that malfunctioned during vote tallying at the 2020 Iowa DEMOCRAT caucuses.

Because of the substantial volume of money that it has raised, and because of its status as a 501(c)(4) political nonprofit organization that is not required to disclose the donations it receives, Acronym has been widely described as a dark money group. Acronym has received criticism for the lack of transparency in its funding structure, although McGowan and others have defended the 501(c)(4) funding structure as a useful innovation for progressive advertising groups to adopt.

In November 2019, Acronym founder Tara McGowan announced that Acronym and its affiliated Super PAC, called Pacronym (and styled PACRONYM), would undertake a $75 million online advertising campaign targeting four potential swing states in the 2020 United States presidential election.

David Plouffe, who was campaign manager for former president Barack Obama, serves on the board of directors of Acronym.

Are you going to claim that the designers of IowaReporterApp are not DEMOCRATS, Nerdberg?

The Engineer moron had reported previously that his car's autopilot was durping on this section of road, yet the moron still chose to play games on his phone rather than pay attention to the road.

Self-driving cars will save thousands of lives every year because most humans are complete morons. A trust a computer driving the car next to more than I trust most of you driving a car next to me.
