The European Union is set to make e-commerce giants like Temu, Shein, and Amazon liable for dangerous or illegal products sold online.

Platforms will now be responsible for ensuring goods comply with EU safety standards, customs duties, and VAT.

New EU customs reforms will allow officials to screen shipments before they even arrive in Europe.

A centralized EU customs authority (EUCA) will be created to oversee inspections and crack down on unsafe imports.

This move shifts responsibility from individual buyers to the platforms—forcing them to police their own supply chains.

Hyperbole. Much of what Temu sells is inferior in quality. Some of those products can also be unsafe simply for that reason.

I voted. Clearly unsafe products should be banned. In the video above, the one I'd ban out of it is at the very end of the video. That product is unsafe. The maker of the video repeatedly states that too. There is also an adjustable hole cutting jig he shows that I'd say is equally unsafe and should be banned. The other items are mostly just poor quality, but they're not likely to kill or injure you. The two I singled out have a good probability of resulting in injury to the user and should be banned.

The question is not whether or not clearly unsafe products should be banned.

Both of the products I suggested should be banned are sold in the US currently.

As for liability, yes, a supplier should be held to some limited liability for selling a product they know or is known to be unsafe. The supplier has some responsibility for allowing unsafe products to be sold through them. This should be limited though with the exact penalty or amount(s) TBD
