NATO and the EU may say what they like, but after Romania’s treatment of Calin Georgescu, neither of these bodies may now claim to uphold *democracy*.
The Romanian scandal reminds me in a rather sour way of Bertholt Brecht's saracastic reaction when the East German workers' state called in Soviet tanks to crush a workers' protest. 'The people have failed us. Perhaps we ought to elect a new people'.
