Ever closer

What is the dispute between the UK and the EU over Northern Ireland all about? It has reached a stage where the EU Commission is hinting at a trade war if Britain continues to send sausages etc. from one part of the UK to another, while President Biden is concerned that these provocations will jeopardize the Peace Process.

The fear supposedly is that substandard British sausages could be sent to Northern Ireland and leak into the Republic, which of course is still part of the EU.

Would it help if chilled meat was re-classified as a medical product? Then the EU Commission could unilaterally abrogate the Northern Ireland Protocol, as it tried to do last January to prevent AZ vaccines being sent there. What do you think?

Trade between Britain and Northern Ireland is equivalent to 0.00008% of the EU’s GDP. Yet the EU conducts around 20% of all checks on goods entering its territory on this miniscule trickle.

No one seriously believes that this is all about protecting the integrity of the single market. Nor is it about preserving the peace process, as someone seems to have persuaded President Biden. Indeed, the longer it goes on, the more peace in the province will be endangered.

So what is it about? Please post your suggestions.

The EU is expected to dissolve within 15 years with the US to follow shortly after.

THE EU - WITH ITS HISTORY OF LAWBREAKING - HAD THE BRASS NECK TO LECTURE THE UK ON ITS LEGAL NORTHERN IRELAND PROTOCOL BILL

Let's be clear, the UK Government's legal Northern Ireland Protocol Bill is an essential measure that masterfully fixes the pitfalls in the Northern Ireland Protocol - it enables the UK Internal Trading Market to work effectively and protects and preserves the political, economic and democratic integrity of the whole of the UK: UK Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. At the same time, it preserves peace and the Good Friday Agreement.

The EU broke the spirit of good will and trust in which the UK Government agreed to sign the NI Protocol. And the EU has itself acknowledged that the Northern Ireland Protocol is not working as it should - but is refusing to contemplate much needed and essential reform.

The UK Government's problem solving Northern Ireland Protocol Bill is entirely legal. Parliament’s legal capability to override international agreements was unanimously approved by the UK Supreme Court in the Gina Miller case and through clear “notwithstanding” provisions in Section 38 of the European Union Withdrawal Agreement Act signed in 2020: a crucial clause often referred to as the "sovereignty enabling/sovereignty protection clause".

THE EU's farcical attempts to lecture the EU on legality are truly breathtaking given the EU's track record on blatant lawbreaking. Here are some examples of the EU's breaches of international law:

In 2010 the EU broke the Lisbon Treaty, with Christine Lagarde - President of the EU Central Bank (ECB) - admitting the following: “we violated all the rules” over the Greek and Irish bailouts.

Germany's Chancellor Merkel suspended the Dublin Regulation UNILATERALLY in August 2015, letting in up to 600,000 Syrians.

In the 1970s Germany's Chancellor Schmidt actually stated: “we breached applicable international treaty law, the IMF treaty, in multiple ways. We have neither complied with all the rules, the procedural rules of the treaty, nor have we complied with the substantive provisions.”

In 2020, Germany's highest court ruled on the European Central Bank's public sector purchase programme, subordinating EU law to German law in breach of what EU members are allowed to do under the EU Treaties they have signed. The EU took no action.

What are your thoughts on the EU's wilful track record of illegality, its appalling, obstructive conduct in relation to the Northern Ireland Protocol and its farcical claims about the UK Government's perfectly legal, problem solving Northern Ireland Protocol Bill?

And why do you think it is that EU fanatics - including the pointless human bollard, Hindsight Starmer, Lord Adonis and Lord Heseltine, who lurk menacingly inside the UK Parliament, are completely silent about the EU's atrocious track record of lawbreaking, yet, at the same time, spit their dummies out and serve their EU masters by acting as shameless cheerleaders for the EU's assault on the UK's LEGAL Northern Ireland Protocol Bill? And why do you think it is that Theresa May is so pathetically naive and gullible in her support for the EU's farcical stance?
