NEW YORK (AP) — A tourist's snapshot of a New York City police officer giving new boots to a barefoot homeless man in Times Square has created an online sensation.

Jennifer Foster, of Florence, Ariz., was visiting New York with her boyfriend on Nov. 14, when she came across the shoeless man asking for change in Times Square.

As she was about to approach him, she said the officer — identified as Larry DePrimo — came up to the man with a pair of all-weather boots and thermal socks on the frigid night. She recorded his generosity on her cellphone.

will you judge other cops based on this cops actions STY?

I didn't see other cops helping give boots/shoes to the homeless nor did I see other cops helping this one do the same. In fact, I gave this particular cop my own praise for this generous and noble act. Now, I ask you, why shouldnt I judge other cops that not only stand around while one of their own assaults a handcuffed individual or protects that single cop from being stopped by a crowd of civilians?

Most cops join the force to do good.
Of that there is no doubt.
Clearly a compassionate person.

Cops are like any other profession. There are good and bad. This cop is obviously a good role model for all the punks who hide behind badges.

The trouble is that he is right much of the time, he is a bit OTT at times but I would rather have him in my tent pissing out rather pissing in.
I watched a trial today of a pair of Hell's Angel's accused of assaulting a man, they had about 5-7 of their buddies in the courtroom, and I'm not going to deny, I was happy to see cops standing around.

Not gonna lie, I thought the story was about a cop stomping a hobo at first.

so you judge other cops by the actions of a few or one bad apple, but refuse to judge other cops by the actions of a few or one good cop....

explain to me why that makes sense.

Bullshit.
You know as well as everyone else does; that newspapers and such are going to print or broadcast that which grabs the most attention and that negativity always wins, when it comes to what people want to see.

While it may only be 'a few bad apples, the majority of cops at least tacitly approve of such corrupting actions. Additionally is the us vs. Them mentality that has been fostered by departments across the country, and the way police treat internal whistle blowers.

I have been on here for over 3 years and STY has been a vociferous campaigner for transparency in the police. He has posted hundreds of stories which are just mindboggling, he should be applauded for his devotion to the truth.

I judge cops by how they act and react to the actions of the other cops around them. when one bad cop is protected by the other cops around them, they are all guilty.

Your post did nothing to address what I mentioned.
