Pretty sure bears, bison, gators, boars and other animals don't hold back out of fear. Doubt geese will get feeling empowered to start pecking people to death.

But it is quite possible that both statements are true depending on the critter and the circumstances.

NO, that's not the ACTUAL reason.
The actual reason is because the animal gets lazy and doesn't work to find what it would normally eat and will begin relying on the "hand outs", more and more.
It's one of the reasons that some States ban leaving out piles of grain for the Deer.
