This is the one thing that I miss, about living in the middle States and visiting those just north east of them.

I'm thinking Montana, Alaska, or even Canada.
I would love to set the trees on fire, shoot the moose in the face, and spew liquid hot diarrhea into the waters with the most satisfying grin. the mountains can stay though. they're nice.

Well they are not the Himalayas but there are nearly 300 over 3000 ft.

Those mountains are MUCH taller than 3000 ft.
The tree covered "bump" to the left in the mid-ground shot is probably 3000 ft.

It was a National Geographic 2013 finalist. It was taken on the Snake River in Wyoming. The mountains behind are probably the Tetons.

Boy are you lost. Nothing like Scotland. There are no mountains that rocky and steep.
I see herds of elk regularly here. Ate some moose this past fall, didn't care for the texture. Elk, now that's some fine eating.
