Farewell to "60 Minutes"

I have not watched 60 Minutes since the long time producer of the show Bill Owens stepped down sighting lost of journalist independence?!!

Friends,

Once you begin surrendering to Trump, he always wants more. You can’t appease a tyrant.

David Ellison’s CBS — after gutting DEI policies there, appointing right-wing hack Kenneth R. Weinstein to a new “ombudsman” role, and making anti-“woke” opinion journalist Bari Weiss editor-in-chief of CBS News (despite her lack of experience in either broadcasting or newsrooms) — yesterday removed a segment from “60 Minutes” featuring stories of Venezuelan men deported by the Trump administration to what the program called a “brutal” prison in El Salvador. Bari Weiss had demanded changes to the segment.

The Ellisons — fils et père — have been seeking Trump’s support for their hostile bid to acquire Warner Bros Discovery, but Trump has been unhappy with recent episodes of “60 Minutes,” even under its new management. Hence, the segment’s removal.

Sharyn Alfonsi, a long-standing “60 Minutes” correspondent who reported the segment that was removed, accused CBS News of pulling it for “political” reasons. “Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices,” she wrote in a note to the CBS News Team. “It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now, after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.”

Should be interesting, along with Sunday’s Face the Nation and CBS Nightly News, well know when Sixty Minutes starts resembling Sinclar’s Full Measure

Here's a link with 13 minutes of the segment. One of the most sickening parts is Kristi "Dog Killer" Noem thanking the torturers for taking in these people, many of whom had no criminal records.

Fuck you asshole. You supported the assassination of your president so, fuck you!

I watched the video. One-sided reporting where 60-minutes interviewed one of the deportees, then various "migrant" advocates and others who are against CECOT.

Whatever CECOT does or doesn't do, a 13-ish minute one-sided hit piece does nothing to bolster 60-Minutes' argument or position. At one point about halfway through the segment they had on an advocate for illegals. He kept calling them "migrants" and arguing what amounted to an open borders position even if he never came right out and said it.

Persons who entered the US ILLEGALLY are criminals. They should be arrested and deported. Sure, give them legal process but they shouldn't be allowed to roam free in the US during that process. Once caught, they go to jail to await their day in court because they're a flight risk.

Is this your way of saying you approve of torture without coming right out with it? Maybe you should read the Geneva Conventions. And before you tell me it only applies to wars, trump is calling this a war on drugs and narco-terrorists.

El Salvador had a near insolvable gang and crime problem. They took care of it.

As for the "Geneva Conventions" maybe you should read the parts on how terrorists and spies can be treated. Would you prefer we just summarily execute them after their trial? I'm good with that. No torture, no prison, just a firing squad and execution. Works for me!

We have no say-so in how El Salvador treats their criminals. It's clear they're fine with torture, but we shouldn't be. We already lived through the disgrace of Abu Ghraib, and it's a stain on our legacy. Not to mention Guantanamo...

We should send their citizens who came here illegally back there. If one of their citizens came here legally and followed the rules, fine. But illegally? That's between them and their country's government. We don't need their criminals, and having come here illegally is an indicator that the person is a criminal.
