Federal judge writes law banning publishing of 3-D gun blueprints

Joe Biden - "Time to put Trump in the bullseye."
Judge says publishing the info will cause "irreparable harm". That is not a legal argument. Legislators can argue that way but not judges. Another judge just making stuff up to suit his agenda.

july 31 2018 A federal judge in Seattle has granted a temporary restraining order blocking a Texas man from releasing downloadable blueprints for 3D-printed plastic firearms.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Lasnik’s ruling Tuesday comes a day after Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a suit challenging the Trump administration’s decision last month to allow Texas gun-rights advocate Cody Wilson to post the blueprints, saying the move would provide broad unregulated access to dangerous weapons

During the Tuesday hearing in Seattle, Eric Soskin, a lawyer for the U.S. Justice Department, said they reached the settlement to allow Defense Distributed to post the material online because the regulations were designed to restrict weapons that could be used in war, and the online guns were no different from the weapons that could be bought in a store.

But the judge countered, “There is a possibility of irreparable harm because of the way these guns can be made.”

Everyone's favorite whiskey drinking lawyer does an excellent rundown of why the judge is a complete idiot and should be hanged for violating his oath of office and his ethical responsibilities.

a temporary restraining order

its perfectly legal you idiot racist Russian

you just don't understand how freedom works

cockbag

So tell us what LEGAL ARGUMENT the judge gave for banning this info. THINK, you miserable white-hating racist wretch.

He found that the Trump Administration likely did not comply with the requirements of the Administrative Procedure Act in settling the existing litigation which began with a 2013 take-down order. That settlement would have allowed these plans to be put out there, possibly in violation of international arms trafficking regulations. The case is not settled. The Judge didn't ban a single thing. He simply put a hold on the settlement which had the effect of reimposing the original injunction.

Some people are really going nuts on this issue. NPR posted a picture of Senators Blumenthal and Markey holding a picture of a plastic AR-15.

A little common sense on this matter would go a long way. At best, plastic guns would present a nuisance. The plastic material simply isn't capable of withstanding the pressure and heat generated by an ignited cartridge more than once or twice. Furthermore, plastic can't withstand the abrasion associated with all the mechanical functions of a semi-automatic firing mechanism. The printed gun would be, at best, capable of a single shot before reloading and would likely be dangerous to fire a second time if reloaded. Basically, the blueprints would be for a novelty item or for a hobbyist who wants to mess around with firearm design.

What exactly is the benefit of these new guns? The way things are going, within five years, pretty much anyone will be able to own a gun anyway.

Hey einstein. 3-D printed guns are just getting started. The problems you mentioned will be solved. THINK

There is a supreme cout precident about this. Long ago they tried to ban a dude for revealing about how to make an atomic bomb. The court allowed the author to publish it. However, after it is published the author can be sued for things that go wrong for publishing it. Like if someone made a bomb from the plans and exploded it at the capital he would be in deep shit.

For example, about the gun, if it were published and some lunitic made A gun from it and killed someone illegally

with it then he could be sued for that.

Sincerely,
JPP's legal expert.

3D printing is so great. It's going to be fun watching leftist nutcases, like Daesh, freak-out over this technology.

To be a viable option, one would need to use a material other than plastic. It's the molecular structure of plastic that makes it unsuitable for components such as barrels, chambers, hammers, disconnects and springs. Plastic simply can't handle the heat and pressure of conventional cartridges. It also can't handle the repeated pounding other gun components take. If it could, we'd have seen it used in commercial products that take similar wear and tear. Right now the polymer components we see used in guns are frames. There's a reason for that.
