Former Drug Runner flying Grandpa Fred around the country

What do you think would happen if Al Gore or John Kerry was being flown around the country by a former drug dealer? The mantra of "Morals matter" is still ringing in my ears:

Thompson Adviser Has Criminal Past

Republican presidential candidate Fred D. Thompson has been crisscrossing the country since early this summer on a private jet lent to him by a businessman and close adviser who has a criminal record for drug dealing.....

Martin entered a plea of guilty to the sale of 11 pounds of marijuana in 1979; the court withheld judgment pending completion of his probation. He was charged in 1983 with violating his probation and with multiple counts of felony bookmaking, cocaine trafficking and conspiracy. He pleaded no contest to the cocaine-trafficking and conspiracy charges, which stemmed from a plan to sell $30,000 worth of the drug, and was continued on probation.

for entertainment value only: for the record, to me its no big deal. The dude paid his fines, did his probation, and paid his debt to society. As far as I'm concerned, he's free now to participate in the political process.

Sounds like a typical republican to me. I don't see any problem here...they will probably make him head of the RNC once this gets around.

Hey now, let's not be hating on former drug dealers who for whatever reason got out of that life.

Yep, you make your pile. you get out and go into something that won't get you prison.

But having said that, this is a blunder by Fred. If I were advising his opponent I'd be muttering darkly about favours being repaid. Bullshit I know, but bullshit works in politics. Oh, the posters, Fred "Flying High, no I mean, really, <snort> Fred is flying high".

Dumb.

Cheese-n-Rice if this was Hilary Clinton the Right wing would be licking it's chops. This wouldn't die for months. The Right would scream it from the mountain tops. Character Counts right?

That bastard should still be in prison.

The ONLY thing that bothers me about this is that the Righties think they have the market cornered on character and morals. They point out the speck in their brother's eye all the while walking around with a steel I beam sticking out of theirs. This friend of Thompson's deserves whatever second chance people want to give him, but members of Thompson's party ran around for years talking about how the Clinton's did this and they did that, how they had Vince Foster killed, how they bilked people outta millions in Whitewater etc etc never having proved anything other than a blow job in the oval office and a lie about that. But Thompson hangs out with a former drug dealer and Rudy's former police commish is linked to Organized Crime and you can hear the crickets chirping in the repub party cause no one wants to take on the character of those people. Hypocrites all.
