An Arlington man has admitted his part in a $374 million home health fraud scheme. Cyprian Akamnonu, 64, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Akamnonu, co-owner of Ultimate Care Home Health Services, was arrested in March along with a Rockwall doctor and five others in what federal authorities called the largest medical billing fraud case of its kind in the nation. Alleged ringleader Dr. Jacques Roy and his associates are accused of recruiting fake patients, including some of Dallas’ homeless, and falsifying records.

Akamnonu submitted fraudulent billings for Medicare reimbursement for nursing services that people didn’t need or receive from 2006 to 2011, earning him more than $43 million, records show.

Akamnonu and Roy had an arrangement in which Akamnonu brought Roy people to bolster Roy’s patient roster, and Roy certified that those people needed the nursing services that Akamnonu’s company provided, according to federal authorities.

Akamnonu faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced, which is scheduled for February.
