Your 1 trillion dollar investment: a nation run by criminal militias; a failed narco state

Opium farms spread across Iraq

The speed with which farmers are turning to poppies is confirmed by the Iraqi news agency al-Malaf Press, which says that opium is now being produced around the towns of Khalis, Sa'adiya, Dain'ya and south of Baladruz, pointing out that these are all areas where al-Qa'ida is strong....

The growing and smuggling of opium will be difficult to stop in Iraq because much of the country is controlled by criminalised militias. American successes in Iraq over the past year have been largely through encouraging the development of a 70,000-strong Sunni Arab militia, many of whose members are former insurgents linked to protection rackets, kidnapping and crime. Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the powerful Shia militia, the Mehdi Army, says that criminals have infiltrated its ranks.

This is a simple case of moving the goal posts yet again.

First the US had failed because Saddam was loose, so captured him.
Then the US failed because there was too much violence, so we took care of that.
Then the US failed becuase the political situation was unstable, so we too care of that.
Now the US has failed because the AP noticed that AlQueda's growing opium.

Yeah, Iraq is one hell of a success story.

I don't know how you can type responses with your head buried so far up bushes ass. The political situation in Iraq is NOT stable. A country that ADMITS that it will be unable to control its own borders for another decade is NOT a politically stable country. Paying militias, who were shooting at us, to stop shooting at us also is not creating stability it is buying the appearance of stability. And the fact is Al Qaeda is not that large of a force in Iraq, the bulk of the opium production is going to be domestic.

LMAO.............

The only reason the far left is against the war is because it takes money away from welfare programs...pure and simple..all the false outrage about the poor troops and oil barrens ripping off the po Iraqi's and calling the war on terror (the military and government) baby killers of poor innocent civilians is really getting old!

What are you...........

Don't you have another six-pack to chug?

babbling about now?...Don't you have some doggie poop to clean?

On second thought I think I will sign out...run to the store and grab a sixpack...it is almost dinner time and I do like to have a beer while cooking...sorry ya can't have a beer while cleaning the kennel..that would be inappropriate!

It's all part of the Donald Rumsfeld plan for freedom in Iraq.

People are free to do bad things, to commit crimes, to loot, and to grow opium.
