Fundamentalism

Fundamentalism is the philosophy of the powerless, the conquered, the displaced and the dispossessed. Its spawning ground is the wreckage of political and military defeat, as Hebrew fundamentalism rose during the Babylonian captivity, as white Christian fundamentalism appeared in the American South during Reconstruction, as the notion of the Master race evolved in Germany following World War I. In such desperate times, the vanquished race would perish without a doctrine that restored hope and pride. Islamic fundamentalism ascends from the same landscape of despair and possesses the same tremendous and patient appeal. - Steven Pressfield

Can you see the difference between the Biden supporter and the Trump Supporter.

One believes we live in a fallen world, the other a hopeful world not yet to see its peak.

At a certain point, all religions are fundamentalist. Christianity in our nation has always been fundamentalist.

No, not all Christianity is fundamentalism. Most of the new testament is not Fundamentalist in nature, but it could be practiced that way. If you embrace evolution, in a social sense, its not fundamentalist.

If you believe you can push society and culture forward toward a better place, you are not fundamentalist.

Its the crux of the difference between Conservatives and Liberals.

All Christianity is fundamentalist. Either you are with them or you are against them. Started with Jesus.

Social evolution puts you in some sorry company. Ever read Mein Kampf?

I reject it.

bizarre.....Christian fundamentalism came about in the 1930s and had nothing to do with Reconstruction.......is the difference between Biden supporters and Trump supporters your ignorance of history?......

OK, please clarify?

The first part, followed by the "- Steven Pressfield," is a quote from a book written by that author.

What comes after that are your own comments.

Correct?

So, you think because some people who embraced it turned out to be less than perfect, that must mean its flawed?

You think its impossible for society to do better over time?

fundamentalism
[ˌfəndəˈmen(t)lˌizəm]
NOUN
a form of a religion that upholds belief in the strict, literal interpretation of scripture.
synonyms:
fanaticism · radicalism · zealotry · zeal · dogmatism · bigotry · militancy · activism · sectarianism · chauvinism · partisanship
strict adherence to the basic principles of any subject or discipline.
"free-market fundamentalism"

Thus, Pressfield starts from a false premise and improperly applies it. You then try to extend that false premise to Trump supporters.

By yours and Pressfield's definition, I could easily extend this to cover the radical Left in part and possibly whole as easily as you've done to Trump supporters. Here's a perfect example:

Fundamentalism isn't about being powerless, conquered, displaced or, dispossessed. It is about being a zealot, a "true believer," and being dogmatic. The radical Left--including Kamala Harris as a top level example-- are exactly that. Fundamentalists use as their pawns useful idiots if you will, the powerless, conquered, displaced, and dispossessed because it is easy to lure them into helping because of their desperation.

The Left is far better at this historically and we can see the repeated results in wrecked economies, wrecked societies, and the social disasters they have created then walked away from.

Incorrect,

Following the Civil War, tensions developed between Northern evangelical leaders over Darwinism and higher biblical criticism; Southerners remained unified in their opposition to both (Marsden 1980, 1991). Modernists attempted to update Christianity to match their view of science. They denied biblical miracles and argued that God manifests himself through the social evolution of society. Conservatives resisted these changes. These latent tensions rose to the surface after World War I in what came to be called the fundamentalist/modernist split. - Woodberry, Robert D; Smith, Christian S

more ignorance......if all religion had been fundamentalist, the fundamentalist movement would obviously have never formed to distinguish itself from the rest of Christianity.......

Christian fundamentalists didn't become a thing until the Baptists churches began to distinguish themselves back in the 30s.......

so in essence you are saying conservative Christians began to distinguish themselves from liberal Christians.......okay, now what does it have to do with Reconstruction as claimed by the OP?......

Those who held onto the idea that the old ways are better, became the Fundy's, those who believe the world is progressing are the progressives.
